Now that I'm almost finished putting up the pictures from Japan, it's made me reflect on the trip. Simply put, I'm going back as soon as I can. It was the experience of my life and it has changed me dramatically. I truly understand now that Phoenix and life that envelopes it is so small that anyone who doesn't travel elsewhere simply won't know anything, period. I came back and immediately signed up for Japanese class and dropped drawing. That right there speaks volumes. The worst days of my life were the first few back from Japan. I missed it so much and I still do. Not a single day and nearly a single moment passes before I think about my trip and how desperate I am to go back. I left my heart in Japan and I need to go back to get it, but nothing guarantees I'll come back. It's also solidified my desire to study in Spain. I'm definitely going, there's no question. If I get married, she'll be from Japan. I wake up every morning, hoping to wake back up in Tokyo. Each day disappoints, but soon the day will come when the day won't disappoint.

Nike is not the death of skateboarding

I know my many recent posts have been of randomness and mostly opinion, but don't worry, faithful agents, I have a Wii launch mission log in the cooker right now and Japan is only a week away. I have to make a bit of a statement regarding the state of skate right now. It seems there are many naysayers out there who are against Nike in skateboarding. Nike right now is creating bright, stylish, and functional footwear for skateboarding. In addition, they now sponsor Tampa Am, the largest skate contest in history. That's pretty legit, if you ask me. What really concerns me are companies such as BAPE out of Japan, and Ice Cream footwear, started out of Japan as well. Bape, started by Pharrell Williams and DJ Nigo, really is only exploiting skateboarding as a fashion and a way to get rich quick. I quote Mr. Williams

" You can do a trick on a skateboard and be cool and earn money. The chicks will love you - just like you're selling dope."

It is idiotic "wangsters" like these who are destroying skateboarding and are the reason why I see rims "spinnin" and chains "flickin" at many skateparks. Rather than skateboarding for fun, many today are skateboarding for money and fame. Ice Cream footwear, started by the same two "gangsters", is a skate shoe company out of Japan. The theme for the over sized sweatshirts, jeans, and shoes is ice cream and ice cream trucks. The shoes, if you look them up, look as though they have been shaped by mentally retarted monkeys and colored by blind sea horses. Honestly, not at all for skateboarding.
They do have a team, but they all skate the same, sketchy way. What is truly sad is that these two companies really comprise what Japan thinks skateboarding is, fashion and money. Japan, and much of America's youth, are being blinded by these awful companies and they are further tearing down what companies like Stereo, Girl, and Real are creating.
As I have continued learning about Japan's culture, I learn that the country's youth is buying 200 dollar "skate" shoes and sweatshirts in an effort in imitate what we do over here, at least as they see it. What they really need to do is hop in the car with me, and get the true essence of it all. Ripped shoes and pants, sweat, and smelling like a diaper after the session. Not to mention walking into Carl's Jr. and having the people there look at your hair sticking up and your back sweat in amazment.

So I played this Japanese guy in Mario Kart on my DS over a Wi Fi connection. I lost. Went skating yesterday. I tried a trick for an hour and finally landed it, 12 guys come behind me and land it first try all in a row. I'm a bit tired of losing. Maks me think back to elementary school when I entered school art contests and lost.

Guess I'm born to lose.

As of these recent few weeks, I'm sure many of my fellow agents have wondered, where's agent 1988? Don't worry, fellow secret agents! I'm alive and kicking!
With finals last week, and a major sickness this week, I've been a bit of a hermit as of late. While working Taiwan, beating the baddies and kicking grandmas while they're down, I fell quite ill. Because of a job well done, HQ decided to hold a party for all it's agents, and to be quite honest, the agents attending were all fools. So, agent 1988 MexiCAN and I drove to the meeting in her Super Sweet Spy Ford Escort. We passed the clearance check that plucked one of our eyelashes and nearly singed our fingers with the finger print check, and upon entering, I truly realized what a fool I had been. The main attractions of this "party" was food platters, a ping pong table, DDR, and "conversation." Not being a physically adept agent, I settled for the food and the "conversation." I scoped out the food, which HQ had neatly arranged into "Fruit and Cheese platters" and an array of cookies, brownies, sodas, and the like. Agent Retard, as I've called him, forced me to try his Jalapeño and Bean dip. As the poison danced on my palate, I soon began what a poor decision that was. Consumed by a fury of poor flavors and the obnoxious presence of these fools, I found myself listening as Agent Retard and the others were describing their relationships, the terms for body parts they hate, and found out our head agent from HQ had been a drug addict for 10 years. Wonderful. To finish the debacle off, the following day I got sick. Agent Retard's bean dip did it.

Mark Appleyard at it again

My favorite part of it all is the sound of the wheels rolling against the brick ground, the pop of his backside heelflip, and the sound of the bricks again. Hard to describe, but I love skating brick ground for that reason alone. A very powerful feeling indeed.

I've got exciting news for you all. I received my passport and I must say, I take a good picture. Everything is complete, Japan here I come!!!! In other exciting news, I received back my report on Barcelona from HQ. I had to compile a report and intelligence for HQ's disposal, all in Castilian (Spanish)! I received a 100% with no errors! Pure joy. I think Spain might be next after Japan! :D Another exciting piece of news is that 11/19/06 the Nintendo Wii comes out! You better believe I'll be assigned the midnight release of that! The message attached is an interesting report HQ sent me, but you must be careful, for it will detonate after 10 minutes, so read fast!

As I've begun to prepare for Mission Tokyo, I've looked a bit into popular street culture over there, I've learned that the youngings are obsessed with skateboarding as a life style and a fashion. What the heck, I find it hard to see that the whole culture is going bananas for anything skateboarding, but it is. Maybe they'd love to see me, a real DSR (Dirty Skate Rat). I both hate that they love it and also think it's cool. Maybe it'll help me with the ladies.

I'm proud to announce that Mission Tokyo is a GO! The trip is set, paid, and my passport will be here in two weeks! Agents 1986 and 1958 B will be accompanying me on the mission to bring out the secrets of the Orient. We will be there from the 01/08/07-01/13/07. I promise to bring you daily updates from my base of operations there. Also, in an unprecedented occurence, you will see pictures of the agents in the field! This mission is GUARANTEED to be good. Super Secret Weekend!

Welcome fellow secret agent, this is 1988 reporting. What a weekend! To start with Saturday, the day was busy, full of learning castellano. I did two weeks worth of Spanish field work in a day! Afterward, my cohorts, Agents 19858 A, 1958 B, 1986, 1998, and myself went to do a little covert operation at a restaurant called Chelsea's Kitchen. fabulous to say the least, my fellow agents. Dinner involved interrogating the fish tacos, rice, and black beans. The black beans seemed suspect, but it was in reality the white rice! What this is travesty? WHITE rice?! Besides that, the fish was dead, fresh, and the guacamole was a refreshing one. to finish off, we had a chocolate cake with peanut butter and banana gelatto from Arcchileto's! These agents deserved this one, our field work has us all busy as bees....covert bees. Sunday, Agents 1979, 1983, 1986, and myself, went to a congregation out in Tempe to meet a fellow agent whom will call Psycho. This agent in particular was from Japan, and was a foreign exchange student at ASU. She was anything but Psycho, but her name sounded like it! A quiet one indeed, but I hope that we fellow agents get to collaborate with her more often. I'm sure Japan is different from Taiwan, and she'll have a different set of views to offer. That my friends, is the beauty of studying abroad. Understanding other views, lives, and mind sets is a blessing, a blessing that this agent will fully take advantage of. In other good news, I'll be sending off my passport this week!

Mission Tokyo is going to happen, but the gears turn slowly. I've also been looking into where my next base of operations might be. I've searched for Head Quarters in SF, Barcelona, and Portland, Oregon. Having looked at each of these cities, the decision is hard. This agent is getting stir crazy!

I'm reporting yet again to inform you of some amazing and for some startling news. Agent 1988 has changed the url for his mission log! I know, it's shocking, but it had to go. I've made too many enemies throughout my career as a agent, and so I had to go into a more secret hiding, so that only true agents would be able to find me! The change also was a very welcome thing. Brown Earth Brigade was a league of gentlemen skateboarders, and I am the only member left in Phoenix, and still skating regularly, so I felt it was an era that had to be laid to rest. I have a lot of fond memories and I'll always treasure them. "ahem" sorry, I had something in my eye, anywhoo, This agent is glad to welcome everyone to a new era in the secret agency and may the years to come be filled with more missions!

Taiwan...cooling off?

As I'm sure you all know, I'm an agent constantly out in the field. Undercover missions, espionage, and stake outs, are all almost daily occurences. I'm constantly outside. It's hard to keep up with this job's demands this summer though because Taiwan has been hittin 113 degrees Farenheit and above on a daily basis. Recently though, HQ has informed me that the weather is set to start a cooling trend for the next four or so days. I'm going to take this opportunity to do as much field work as possible, including a co-op mission at a local mini ramp. I hope to see you fellow agents out in the field as well.

I'm sure many of you know that HQ has sent me the Mission of Tokyo to uncover The secrets of Honda's and Toyota's vehicles. I mean, we westerners just can't figure out how they make such great, dependable, and peppy cars. So HQ has given me the criteria of this co-op mission, but has yet to set a date. In my mission briefing, I was told that I was to work with Agents 1986 and 1958-B, but they too know nothing about a date. HQ is hard at work, providing for its agents, but they need to get their act together. C'mon! Its always about the mission, nothing else! When HQ finally sets the date and finalized plans, you fellow Agent Believers will be the first to know, and in accordance with our secret society's laws, the last.

This past few days, actually months, have been really warm in Taiwan. Heck, it's the hottest summer in 400 years! Well, as a result I've had to make internet surfing, drawing, and playing video games my endeavors for the days. While surfing I noticed an Amazing announcement. The details can be found below.

BLAZING NEW PATHS, NOT FOLLOWING THEM ...

Now that we have made hundreds of millions of dollars off of the highly lucrative market of action sports hardgoods, a.k.a. skateboarding, Jason and I have decided to pack it up and retire on a small island off Fiji. We will be bringing with us only our wives, a tent, a coffee maker, my cigar collection, and a marble bath tub. This means we can not be reached by cell or email, so if you would need to contact us, we suggest passenger pigeon.

Just kidding... the opposite is happening actually...

We're going independent!

Since 1992, Stereo's foundation has been built on blazing new paths, not following them, and that's exactly what we plan to do. Our brand represents individuality, and not following "industry" standards. We use this same approach with business and we feel it's time for Stereo to expand into the lifestyle skateboard brand it was meant to be. This will also allow our team to put their focus back on what got them into skating in the first place, having fun. They will continue filming for the upcoming video project "Adventures Through Sound", which is scheduled to be released sometime in 2007.

If you love both skateboarding and art / design then let's face it, you're probably not 10 years old. We have looked at the skate market and felt it was time to evolve. Instead of Stereo trying to cash in by marketing only to the 10-15 year old demographic (which seems to be the direction of many of our corporate counterparts), by dumbing down our product and our marketing, we are reworking the brand for the educated Stereo consumer. In short we are choosing creativity over cash.

Our new Agency Headquarters is being erected in Downtown LA as we speak, and a new staff of Agents are on stand by. Bear with us as we set up shop and new contact info will be available shortly.

Another big step forward is we are setting up our new Online Stereo Store! This new independent business model will allow us to have a much more hands on approach to every aspect of Stereo.

Everyone here is very excited about possibilities that lie before us, it's a new era my friends! Look for even more limited edition products and collaborations, which will mean better quality products. We will be offering a new line of Kangol hats, an all new Etnies line, a limited run denim line from WESC, and some new kick ass collaborations which are yet to be announced.

I rhymed Spanish and english in the title. I'm quite the loser for such an elite agent. This mission log is about Mission 06SOCAL. It was like any other mission that HQ sends me on every year. But this mission in particular was rather dissappointing. Each year, HQ dispenses a small expense account to me for drinks, trollops, and the eccetera that come with my mission, and set me up in a hotel room, And give me some criteria for the trip. Transportation is also provided, and food is always covered 100%. So I began the trip to La Jolla, the base of operations, on 06/06/06. Most likely not the best date to travel, but the trip to there was uneventful. Upon arrival at the hotel, I checked in. The first night did not bode well. I was eagerly awaiting a call from my snitch..uhh I mean informant when I received a call about a noise complaint. Ahhhh! Well, to make matters worse, I went out afterward to get some Gelatto, but nearly everything in town was closed by 8 p.m. The following 3 days can be best described as uneventful, without a beach day, and rather depressing.

Greetings from Super Secret Agent 1988,
It's been some time since our last rendevous. The Agency has kept me busy. I finally, after a grueling 9 months of beatings, drills, and international missions, have completed mission Senior Year. It was a tough mission, but I passed all areas of study ( Mathematics for the field agent, Mission Log Composition, Disguise 101, History of the agency, and international love making) with flying bullets. At last, the agency has given me my full time field work and even threw a party, in my honor. While at this "party" I came to close proximity with a agent we'll call "waitress" and struck up conversation. I came to realize that this would be the final for international love making, and so I made my move. This mission would require a delicate hand, for you see, it is part of the agent's code to not "know" any other agent until board approval. So in this agent's case, I could only deal in sharp and witty flirtation. So I made some witty comments,and after making a quick compliment to "waitress" she proceeded to blush. When I saw her face turn red I could forsee the agency giving my medal for completing the mission so well! Ahhhh fond times. Well Old chaps I will tell more, but not until our next meeting

Aging and Raging

I'm sure my legions of fans have noticed my more frequent update of my mission log and this can be attributed to HQ and I patching things up. Rough times make for good Rhymes as they say. Anywho, I'm a fully-reinstated agent and have resumed full active duty along with being put back on pay roll. It's hard to find work that pays $2.75 an hour. I mean that's really good right? I could actuallly afford to buy my own ramen noodles on that salary. No more dumpster raids, hooray. In other super secret agent news, you may have noticed an updated picture of myself, and are probably asking what happened? Well, as you all know, it's the last 2 weeks of my senior year of spy school, and senioritis has set in. I thought the effects wouldn't be so bad, but just look at my face. It's like 1 month old guacamole, it's tempting, but so not worth it. I might throw up now just looking at me.

I followed up on Mission Prom.... sort of. The female agent in question was in my first spy class quantum mathematics for the field agent and I did pretty much nothing. I felt confident, striding in like a stallion full of mustard and custard, not a happy mix, and was to refuse this hideous feining of a mission, but failed to speak to her. I didn't want to yes, nor did I wish to say no. And so I said nothing, the agent in question took note of this and has asked another agent to Mission Prom. Thank the spy Gods! However, as that drunken bout at Disney land came back and bit me, so did this. Once a friendly agent, now she is a rotten and hateful one. Does our beloved agent 1988 care, hardly. As a matter of fact, this agent simply wants to graduate and return to the field, and perhaps a new base of operation would be nice. Taiwan's lost it's charm. 20 years in an apartment complex owned by a rather drunken fellow seems to wear the heart down a bit. Maybe HQ will send me to Japan this summer?

April 07, 2006 I was in the fourth class of my senior year in spy school ( refer to post around august) and HQ sent a messenger, I was soon to find out that this would be a messenger of death!!!! I proceeded to HQ's reception triangle and was astonished to find agent 1988 NaS there with a large piece of news. She requested that I accompany her on an evening of dancing, dinner, and "good times" and all of this was relayed in a bit of some language called "French". Some nonspecific slavic language I presume. She told me this mission was to be called mission 05/06/06: Prom. My heart nearly dropped. I was so nervous, never had another agent of the female "gender" asked me out! I proceeded to tell her I'd need until Monday to decide and to be honest, I'm going to answer no. She'll probably cry at which point I'll have to gas her with sleeping gas... or pull that wicked crazy Spock knockout move. I haven't decided. Either way, tomorrow will be awful.

Agent 1988...dead?

Haha! Not quite yet my fellow agents! It seems as though I've been held captive for quite sometime by Congo Jack in Cambodia! To fill in the details I was sent by HQ to Cambodia for inspection of an illegal manufacturing plant that made, of all things, fake spy identification classification binomenclature cards!!!! I was horrified, shocked, and proceeded to buy one. What? HQ forgot to give me a new ID after I managed to come back from the Disneyland escapades! Anywho, because my communications earpiece was still broken ( or were they ignoring me?) I had to catch my own flight home. I was boarding my American West Flight- which I got thanks to my frequent flier miles- and I was captured by Cambodian authorities! I was a POW for 6 months!!! I sprang out and used the alias of a Dr.Von Bismark to get back to Taiwan and resume full active duty. Perhaps HQ will send me on a better mission next time.

Because of my shinaneganes, HQ has required me to go back to spy school.
Thankfully I only have to go through the final year of spy school. I feel like a seasoned veteran, amongst short and fresh faced new students..... I lie! I feel so old. I'm feeling my age. HQ is doing this to torture me! Ahhhhhh! Oh well. I'll just go to the bar on campus and get wasted. I'll remember nothing, take the finals, and coast back into the field. It always works that way, right? I mean c'mon, so many citizens have done that in their education. Why I can't I just buy my way through?

Ahhh, back from the mission. Disneyland turned out to be a slave labor camp.Young teenagers selling churros from small stands and god-like images of Mickey Mouse soon filled my senses. Upon seeing the electric parade the mouse finally revealed himself and his sinister plan. To convince visitors to stay and spend exuberant amounts of money on over-priced t-shirts and other souveniours so that he could execute his plan for WORLD DOMINATION!!!!!!!!! I had to act! I pushed through the crowd and found myself in the arms of premises security. My plan was doomed! I was drugged and found myself in an interrogation room. Standing before me was Mickey's right hand man Goofy. He slapped me and asked me why I was at DisneyLand. I responded with an scheming smirk. " HQ will be swarming this place in no time, they wouldn't let one of their own go down like this!" I proclaimed proudly, "It's over Goofy, for you and for Mickey!" A slight fuss emitted from my earpiece," Agent 1988 this is HQ, we 'regretfully' need to tell you that no back up is on the way, you're on your own, transmissions will no longer commence following this, good luck Parker." My heart stopped "Why HQ, WHY!!!!!!!" I cried. Tears flowed down my eyes, I squealed like a little school girl. I was drugged once again and awoke several hours later to find my self in the gutter in front of a nearby Denny's being poked at by a young Puerto Rican boy named Rico. After being prompted to do so Rico directed me to the nearest drugstore where I purchased nondescript liquior under the brand of Origin Unknown. At this point even this label was reassuring. While sitting upon the curb outside consuming this bottle of liquior that tasted like dirty water, I tried to contact HQ. No response. I believe my piece was broken. HQ was only joking! I'm sure of it! After this I remember nothing. My memory returned in a hotel room at the Hotel Del where a maid was yelling at me to lift my feet off the floor. Already service is here? I got out after being reprimanded by the maid and commenced to make my way towards the patio. I ordered a virgin smoothie after my fiasco of an attempt to determine my level of alcohol tolerance with Rico. After a jelly fish stung me while boogie boarding and a gorgeous woman assaulted me after an offer of a dinner and a movie I felt Taiwan was calling me. So I somehow convinced some nearby Taiwanese fishing crew to take me home. Don't ask about that one. Not worth it.

Yet again, Darn HQ! I have yet another mission. I've been ordered to do a little investigating on the whereabouts of a Mr. Walt Disney and how Mickey Mouse a.k.a. "the big cheese" is somehow involved. HQ has surveillance photos of Mr. Mouse dealing some illegal drugs while in his "DisneyLand" to young children. Perhaps if all goes well I'll be seeing him in court Michael Jackson style. While there I've also received orders to infiltrate Hotel Del Coronado and, as HQ put it, "stay busy." HQ is giving me weirder assignments with each mission. I guess stay busy means make a ruckus or perhaps reveal my identity? I'll do both! Taiwan's been becoming a hot zone. My identity's getting harder to hide...HEY! WHO ARE YOU?!! BOB?!! FROM HQ!?? TAKING MY LICENSE AWAY?!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Agent 1988 Parker Brown reporting,
On a recent co-op mission to Phoenix Arizona to align a hit I met with my fellow agent Leonardo.
He told me that he was making a documentary with local filmmakers Brock H. Brown and Joshua J. Provost about a hit he was hired to do. Upon hearing this I had to investigate. I snuck into the residence of Mr. Brown and infiltrated his iMAC ( The Best Computer available at all participating retailers) and viewed this controversial documentary. I was shocked, it brought me to tears, wait.... did I just say that. Well I guess I'll just have to track all viewers of this blog and get incriminating blackmail. The mission went better than I or HQ could have ever hoped. Skating was near impossible for the duration of the mission due to the extremely high temperatures. on avarage it was 116. Ah, it's good to be back in Taiwan. Until my next post.

It's been months since I've last posted, and surprisingly enough I've changed much since then. Biggest change. I'm 30 pounds lighter! Whew, I think I just dropped the biggest monster cra.... ehhh sorry.:-D Of course the majority of my time's been consumed by skating and drawing. Skating has been alot better for me! Learning new stuff every day. But man falling hurts alot more without a cushion. The hot weather is here as all know. Tawian gets hot in the summer. But eh, what can you do? I've pan handled enough to get a ac machine for my cardboard box. But, the best part of these past months is that I've become a hermit to the outside world. More time to myself means more "mental exploration of my mental biome", aka more time to think. Thinking keeps me alive. But it confuses me. Months later and I've seen starwars twice, tough to think at my last post I had no idea what starwars was gonna be like! Things become clearer with time huh. Troy sadly moved and nate has been ignoring my calls. I see him at the park sometimes but oh well. he's a busy man. I better end this crap fest. till later, which might be months down the line.

This past bit of a week has been odd. For about 3 or 4 days I've felt like I'm in a daze.Plus I saw ocean's 12. I was so out of it I'm not sure what happened in the movie. I think it was okay. It's hard to think straight when you feel trippy. I did enjoy the cinematagraphy, don't dis my spelling. I'm bad at spelling. Anywho I also saw Spanglish. It was an emotionfest. Let's all cry. Wah Wah Wah, alright now that that's over let's talk with long pauses and little meaningful dialogue and solve our problems. ehehehehe. Sorry sack of film that was. My ankle's been weird too. It's been acting like I've rolled it but all I've done is take a 5 day skate break. It's a jerk. but today it feels good. So I'm gonna go tear it up somewhere. Alright man or lady. thanks fer coming an' readin'. Today was interesting, for me at least. But then again, if you come here then just about anything will do for entertainment. Anybody with any amount of decency wouldn't read my garbage. At school, aka the grind
they found a dead guy in car who stabbed himself. Cops and the whole bit. At least I had an excuse to be late to 3 of my classes. What made the day was the fact that I got asked by some people if I'm selling "rock", that's right, rumor has it I'm a coke addict. I laughed and thought about telling people I had some, but better thinking told me to say "nope don't have any today." Kids my age. :-D
I saw spongebob this weekend. Pretty sweet. Best part was the fact that spongebob and patrick got drunk off of ice cream.
And another great thing is crailtap.com some funny stuff. Alrighty then.
